There aren’t a lot of fairytale moments on the path to a nursing career, but last month, one of our summer campers traded in her scrubs for white satin and a golden crown. Thirteen-year-old Makenzi, a Metro Nashville Public Schools 8th grader, was chosen as the 2024 Miss LYDIA Society. Congratulations, Makenzi!
Before attending the NursesMC summer camp this July, Makenzi was thinking about a career in cosmetology. Now her sights are set on a career as a nurse practitioner, a fact which impressed the judges at the Sixth Annual LYDIA Society Trumpet Ball. The July 28 event was hosted by the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA) in partnership with Meharry Medical College School of Public Health, Vaccine for All and the Resident Associations at MDHA properties. The LYDIA Society engages teenage girls living at MDHA properties and teaches them about topics such as writing, technology and health.
